We also have an annual school show where we showcase our work. Many students are encouraged to audition for Youth Ballet Companies, take part in competitions, festivals and prestigious Associate programmes. Encouragement and guidance can be given to pupils who want to make dance a career. You may trial a lesson before committing to a full terms fees.

Ballet (RAD)

The Royal Academy of Dance promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally. We seek to accomplish our mission through promoting dance, educating and training students and teachers and providing examinations to reward achievement. Since 1920 the RAD has been educating and training dance teachers and students and is firmly established as a leader in dance education and training. Whilst ballet remains central to the work of the RAD, the range of education and training programmes on offer reflect the diversity of dance, dance training and dance education worldwide.

Modern Dance (ISTD)

Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.

Tap (ISTD)

This has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.

Musical Theatre

Learn to sing and perform the songs from the Musicals of the past and present. Classes are taught by Claire Reed, graduate of the London College of Music.

Contemporary Class

A popular dance style characterised by the use of the torso and centre; contraction and release, use of breath and expressing emotions. There are various contemporary techniques, including Graham, Horton and Cunningham. A strong classical foundation is important and dancers are encouraged to bring a sense of purpose, individuality and performance to the studio, with the willingness to explore and step outside their comfort zones. Classes taught by Montanna Springer.

Jazz Dance

Combining contemporary and jazz techniques, dancers can learn exciting, new ways of moving whilst strengthening and conditioning the entire body. Classes are taught by Sonya Nichols and Montanna Springer.

Acro Dance

Combing dance technique with acrobatic elements. These classes are taught by Montanna Springer, qualified UKCC Gymnastics Coach.

Elite Team

This is a group of dancers via invitation only who show a combination of desire, ambition and talent. The NSD Elites attend classes in all styles and come together to rehearse for extra hours of training and rehearsal each week.
