Ballet (RAD)
The Royal Academy of Dance promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally. We seek to accomplish our mission through promoting dance, educating and training students and teachers and providing examinations to reward achievement. Since 1920 the RAD has been educating and training dance teachers and students and is firmly established as a leader in dance education and training. Whilst ballet remains central to the work of the RAD, the range of education and training programmes on offer reflect the diversity of dance, dance training and dance education worldwide. RAD Ballet classes at NSD are taught by Montanna Springer, Michael Gibbons & Sonya Nichols.
Modern Dance (ISTD)
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. Classes are taught by Montanna Springer & Sonya Nichols.
Tap (ISTD)
This has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals. Syllabus classes are taught by Alison Gibbons, with free work classes by Montanna Springer.
Musical Theatre

Contemporary & Rambert Grades
A popular dance style characterised by the use of the torso and centre; contraction and release, use of breath and expressing emotions. There are various contemporary techniques, including Graham, Horton and Cunningham. A strong classical foundation is important and dancers are encouraged to bring a sense of purpose, individuality and performance to the studio, with the willingness to explore and step outside their comfort zones. Free work classes are taught by Montanna Springer and the Rambert Grades Syllabus is taught by Sonya Nichols and Liliana Della-Vale.
Rambert Grades is a pioneering contemporary dance syllabus born from the collaboration and partnership between world leading Rambert and Rambert School. Rambert Grades is an awarding body, recognised by Ofqual.
